The 2040 Long Range Transportation Plan is the current plan for the Central Virginia MPO. The general goals of the Long-Range Transportation Plan (LRTP) are to assess the performance of the transportation system over a 20+ year horizon, and to identify the projects that best address the needs of the system based on expected population, housing and employment growth, while also accounting for financial forecasts during the plan’s update process. The LRTP provides both a financially constrained plan, which takes into account funding limitations, and an unconstrained plan, which contains a wide-range of potential transportation improvements should additional funding sources become available.
The Rural Transportation Planning Work Program is an MPO document that was created to aid the State in fulfilling the requirements of the State Planning Process to address the transportation needs of non-metropolitan areas. The scope of work shall include specific activities as requested by VDOT and/or the Federal Highway Administration. The scope of work may also include activities or studies addressing other transportation planning related issues that may be of specific interest to the region.
